Chlorine dioxide pills introduction
Chlorine dioxide pills is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula ClO2. Chlorine dioxide has bleaching properties and is mainly used for bleaching pulp and paper, fibers, wheat flour, starch, refining and bleaching oils, beeswax, etc. Additionally, due to its strong disinfection ability, it is often used as a disinfectant for drinking water to replace traditional liquid chlorine disinfection.
Mechanism of action
Chlorine dioxide has the functions of sterilization, bleaching, deodorization, disinfection, and preservation. Mainly because chlorine dioxide has an oxidizing effect, the electronic structure of chlorine dioxide molecules is in an unsaturated state, with a total of 19 electrons in the outer layer, which has strong oxidizing properties. It mainly attacks electron rich (or electron donating) atomic groups (such as enzymes and sulfides containing thiol groups, chlorides), forcibly grabbing electrons, making them inactive and changing properties substances.
1. Sterilization mechanism
Chlorine dioxide has a strong adsorption and penetration ability on the cell wall, releasing atomic oxygen to oxidize enzymes containing thiol groups inside the cell and play a bactericidal role.
2. Bleaching effect
The bleaching of chlorine dioxide is achieved by releasing atomic oxygen and producing hypochlorite to decompose pigments. Using it as a bleaching agent instead of chlorine gas, chlorates, etc. can prevent and avoid oxidation with fibers and reduce fiber strength, resulting in a more comprehensive effect.
3. Deodorizing effect
The deodorization of chlorine dioxide is due to its ability to undergo dehydration reactions with odorous substances (such as H2S, – SOH, – NH2, etc.) and rapidly oxidize the odorous substances into other substances. And it can prevent the decomposition of methionine into ethylene, as well as destroy the formed ethylene, thereby delaying decay, while killing microorganisms without reacting with fatty acids and not damaging food structure.
