What is Caustic sodium hydroxide
Caustic sodium hydroxide, inorganic compound, chemical formula NaOH, also known as caustic soda, caustic soda, solid alkali, caustic soda and caustic soda. Sodium hydroxide has strong alkalinity and strong corrosivity. It can be used as acid neutralizer, coordination masking agent, precipitant, precipitation masking agent, color developer, saponification agent, peeling agent, detergent and so on.
There are two methods for industrial production of sodium hydroxide: causticization and electrolysis. Causticization can be divided into soda causticization and natural alkali causticization according to different raw materials; Electrolysis method can be divided into diaphragm electrolysis method and ion exchange membrane method.

Caustic sodium hydroxide application
Caustic sodium hydroxide is widely used in petroleum, textile, light industry, chemical industry, paper making, plastic, and metallurgical industry, etc.
- Used as the most common paint stripper on wooden objects.
- Used in conjunction with Zinc for creation of the famous ”Gold pennies” experiment.
- is used in the refining of alumina containing ore(bauxite) to produce alumina (aluminum oxide) which is the raw material used to produce aluminum metal via the smelting process.
- Used in soap making (cold process soap, saponification).
- Food uses of sodium hydroxide include washing or chemical peeling of fruits and vegetables.
- Used in the home as a drain cleaning agent for clearing clogged drains.
- Used as a cleaner in breweries, where it is simply called caustic.
