Spectrus NX1107

Spectrus NX1107 is an algae control agent registered with the EPA for use in recirculating cooling systems. Algae deposits can block distribution decks and plug spray nozzles leading to inefficient cooling tower operation. Slime producing algae can coat heat exchanger tubes and reduce the rate of heat transfer. Further, algae mats can harbor anaerobic sulfate reducing bacteria that damage equipment through microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC).

DESCRIPTION AND USE
Spectrus NX1107 is an algae control agent registered with the EPA for use in recirculating cooling systems. Algae deposits can block distribution decks and plug spray nozzles leading to inefficient cooling tower operation. Slime producing algae can coat heat exchanger tubes and reduce the rate of heat transfer. Further, algae mats can harbor anaerobic sulfate reducing bacteria that damage equipment through microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). Use of Spectrus NX1107 will help cooling systems operate efficiently and aid product units in meeting profitability goals.
Spectrus NX1107 is a concentrated product containing 44.7% Terbuthylazine, a potent inhibitor of photosynthesis, the process by which algae convert sunlight into chemical energy necessary for cell growth.
Spectrus NX1107 is synergistic with halogens (chlorine or bromine, from gas, liquid, or solid halogen donors). Spectrus NX1107 allows algae control with out resorting to high, free halogen residuals that are corrosive to system metallurgy and destructive to cooling tower wood. Figure 1 shows how Spectrus NX1107 and chlorine together reduce adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels. ATP is the primary energy transmitting molecule in all living systems. Microbial ATP levels drop quickly as algae die.
TREATMENT AND FEEDING REQUIREMENTS
When a system is heavily fouled with algae, manual cleaning should be performed before chemical treatment begins. If physical removal is impossible, a twostage Spectrus NX1107 program is recommended.
Stage 1 is a cleanup program; and Stage 2 is a maintenance program.
Cleanup Dosage and Frequency Program – When physically removal of algae is impossible, cleanup of algae- fouled systems will require regular application of 5.0 to 6.7 ppm (mg/L) of Spectrus NX1107 as product (2.0 to 3.0 ppm [mg/L] of active). Cleanup maytake 2 to 4 weeks. Effective algae control using Spectrus NX1107 will only be achieved if product residuals are consistently maintained during the entire cleanup period. The frequency of Spectrus NX1107 addition during cleanup should be based on the retention time of the system. Table 1 describes typical treatments for algae-fouled systems having different half-lives.
In all cases this product must be applied in accordance with the Spectrus NX1107 label.
Feedpoint – Shot-feed Spectrus NX1107 during daylight hours when algae are photosythesizing and most vulnerable. Addition of Spectrus NX1107 to the cooling system should be made at a point that provides good mixing, such as ahead of recirculating pumps.
Where Possible, injection of Spectrus NNX1107 into hot return riser has proven very effective at controlling algae growth on open cooling tower decks.
Dilution – Ideally, a pre-measured quantity of the product should be mixed with water then added to the system. This ensures the product is not overfed and does not settle out before being distributed throughout the systems.
Compatible materials – Spectrus NX1107 is compatible with 304 and 316 Stainless, high-density polyethylene, teflon, and PVC.
Avoid: Mild steel, Hastalloy, fiberglass-reinforced plastic, litharge viton, Hypalon
