Description and Use
ProChem 4H6 is a concentrated, water soluble, hydrocarbon dispersible, process-side neutralizing amine.
This unique patented formulation is designed to elevate the pH of process unit overhead waters to help minimize corrosion and fouling in column and overhead equipment by neutralizing dissolved acidic corrodents such as HCI, H2S organic acids, sulfoxy acids, and others.
Application
ProChem 4H6 can be used in many hydrocarbon fractionation systems to elevate the pH of the process system condensate.
Applications include crude overhead, vacuum overhead, reformer prefractionators, hydrodesulfurization reactor effluents, gasoline plant distillation columns, and various petrochemical distillation column overheads.
Treatment
ProChem 4H6 is normally added at the proper feedrate to maintain the process water pH at between 5.5 and 6.5. GE Infrastructure Water & Process Technologies will determine the best feedrate to produce the optimum pH for each system based on operating conditions, feedrate and system corrosivity.
Feeding
ProChem 4H6 may be fed neat or diluted to a convenient strength with a good quality water. For proper and consistent protection, ProChem 4H6 should be fed continuously with a positive displacement chemical feed pump. Avoid using copper or copper alloys in the pump and feed line with this material. For convenience, it may be fed with oil based filming inhibitors by feeding from separate containers into a common point. Avoid direct mixing of ProChem 4H6 with oil based products. Do Not Mix with other process chemicals unless compatibility has been checked with Product Management.
ProChem 4H6 can be fed either to the overhead vapor line or to the column charge as recommended by GE.
It should always be fed at a point ahead of where corrosion is occurring.
Evaluation
Corrosion test coupons, corrosometer probes, detailed water analyses for pH, metals, chlorides, acids and bases, and visual inspection of equipment should be used to adjust chemical dosage and to evaluate treatment effectiveness.
