DESCRIPTION AND USE
BetzDearborn OPTISPERSE HP54707 is an aqueous blend of phosphate, polymeric dispersants and corrosion inhibitors, The product contains SCP and/or SCCP synthetic carboxylated polymer and/or copolymer designed to disperse iron and other metal oxides. Polymer ratios is tailored to provide excellent deposition protection for your specific system.
BetzDearborn OPTISPERSE HP54707 is designed for specific operating conditions (pH/P04 control range) and the type of service required.
A separate feed of oxygen scavenger to the storage section of the deaerator is desirable. For low pressure units or boilers without feedwater steam attemperation, catalyzed sulfite products such as BetzDearborn CORTROL IS products are recommended. For higher pressure units or units where feedwater will be used for attemperation, BetzDearborn CORTROL OS products are recommended. To provide condensate corrosion protection, STEAMATE NA or NF or PAS products is recommended.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Hardness is a minor constituent in water of high purity. The major contaminants are typically iron and copper oxides. Iron deposits are very porous and this porosity makes the road to caustic corrosion possible. As the steam escapes through the chimney-shaped deposits, dissolved solids concentrate under the deposit. Hydroxide is the predominant anion. As such, sodium hydroxide can concentrate under the deposit to produce caustic levels of 10% or more. This results in caustic gouging of boiler metal.
BetzDearborn OPTISPERSE HP54707 fights the problem on two fronts. First, its exclusive polymer combination controls metal oxide deposits. Second, its built-in phosphate buffer neutralizes any free caustic in the boiler water. The sodium-to-phosphate ratio in OPTISPERSE POXXXX is custom formulated to keep your system within control limits. This combination of chemical mechanisms provides the most effective coordinated phosphate/pH control program available. This treatment will buffer the boiler water preventing localized pH excursions that lead to corrosion of the boiler metal.
The other key to the treatment program effectiveness is our metal oxide-specific polymeric dispersant technology. Our tailored treatment approach combines SCP and SCCP synthetic carboxylated polymer and copolymer to disperse iron and other metal oxides, maintaining clean heat-transfer surfaces.
As SCP and SCCP polymers adsorb onto metal oxide particles, they modify crystal growth, alter surface charge, and prevent deposition. The SCP/SCCP combination, an extremely effective iron and copper technology, dramatically improves heat-transfer efficiency by reducing iron deposition. Caustic corrosion is prevented by maintaining a phosphate buffer with coordinated control.
TREATMENT AND FEEDING RECOMMENDATIONS
Feed Point – Boiler stream drum via separate chemical feedline.
Feed Rate – Sufficient BetzDearborn OPTISPERSE HP54707 should be fed to maintain the recommended boiler phosphate residual. The product is formulated for specific operating conditions and the type service required. The feed rates depend upon operating pressure, heat transfer rate, feedwater quality and type of fuel burned.
Dilution – Use good quality condensate, demineralized water or deaerated boiler feedwater to make a convenient feeding strength. The material may be fed neat or diluted in any proportion. If diluted, mild agitation should be provided.
Equipment – BetzDearborn OPTISPERSE HP54707
can be fed using polyolefin tanks with stainless steel piping, pump internals, fittings, and shut off valves. Relief valves, agitator shaft and propeller should be stainless steel. Consult your BetzDearborn representative for specific information.
